Each year the staff of Da Vinci's Hotel Complex nominate a charity to work with in the coming 12 months. This year it has been decided that our chosen charity would be a local charity Children in Crossfire. We are delighted to support them as part of our on going hotel charity work.
ABOUT CHILDREN IN CROSSFIRE
Children in Crossfire's projects in Tanzania, Ethiopia and The Gambia provide facilities where malnourished children are fed; where children with cancer survive and thrive; where children with disabilities are supported and re-habilitated; where vulnerable children are protected and where they are given the chance to participate in the decisions that affect them. Children in Crossfire focus on Early Childhood Development targeting children who are under 8 years old.
How Children in Crossfire started...
In 1972, aged 10, whilst on his way home from school, Richard Moore was blinded by a rubber bullet fired at point blank range into his face in Derry. He has never allowed bitterness to hold him back an dhas 'learned to see life in a different way.' The experience inspired Richard to set up Children in Crossfire, a charity committed to the protection and promotion of rights of the most vulnerable children caught in the crossfire of poverty.
Inspired by Richard's story and the work of the charity His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet agreed to become its patron. He describes Richard as 'my hero, a wonderful son of humanity'.
