Everything you need to know about the Clipper Race:
With no previous sailing experience necessary, it's a record breaking 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on 70 foot ocean racing yacht.
This is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other. Divided into eight legs and 14 individual legs. It is the only race in the world where the organisers supply a fleet of 12 identical racing yachts, each with a fully qualified skipper to safely guide the crew.
Normally this type of course is for seasoned pros, but the Clipper Race provides ordinary, everyday people. Having completed a rigorous training course, participants are suited and booted in the latest extreme protection gear to commence the race of their lives.
The sea does not distinguish between Olympians or novices. There is nowhere to hide, if Mother Nature throws down the gauntlet, you must be ready for the same challenges as the pro-racer.
Derry ~Londonderry Clipper Team
Derry~Londonderry was founded in 2011 when they boarded their first clipper race ahead of Derry’s year of the UK City of Culture in 2013 and came an impressive 5th in 2013/14 race.
At the moment the Derry ~Londonderry team who are 2nd in the race, are making their way to Derry where they will make a quick stop before the race head to the Netherlands and finishing in London by late July.
