Iconic and renowned local hotel Da Vinci’s on Derry’s Culmore Road has this week been awarded four star status by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board under its new quality grading scheme. Da Vinci’s Hotel continues to be a market leader in the hospitality sector after almost 13 years and it comes as no surprise that NITB has revised the Hotel’s star rating from 3 stars to 4 stars in recognition of the progress made in the last eighteen months.
Over the past year and a half the management of Da Vinci’s Hotel has worked closely with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board to ensure capital expenditure allocated by owner Garvan O’Doherty would meet the high standards and criteria set by the Tourist Board to achieve four star recognition. The 65 bedroom hotel embarked on a significant project which seen major renovations undertaken in the property’s bedroom block, hotel lobby, Style Bar, Main Bar and Grillroom Restaurant with additional ongoing work to be rolled out during this highly anticipated year of City of Culture.
Responding to news of the award, General Manager, Andy O’Doherty commented, ‘The management and team at Da Vinci’s Hotel are thrilled with the announcement that we have been awarded 4 star status. This was our goal and this achievement is testament to the hard work of our team and the investment by the owner in the property. It is the perfect time to be presented this classification upgrade as we get underway in our year as City of Culture and we are well placed to capitalize on the demand for quality, four-star accommodation.’
Under the new grading system from NITB it’s not just about the standards of the fixtures and fittings - customer service plays a pivotal role and it was in this area that Da Vinci’s felt it already had a cutting edge. With a well documented reputation as first class leaders in customer service the Hotel committed to further enhancing their customer service standards by ensuring all staff completed the World Host Program. Da Vinci’s Hotel was the first hotel in Derry to complete the World Host Program managed by NITB and funded by Department of Employment and Learning.
